In the room I want to paint a wall in intensive yellow.

  • In the room I want to paint a wall in intensive yellow. Can I mix in 5 l pail of white wall paint several different pigments?

  • If it is a very intensive colour shade, you will not reach it by adding pigment pastes in white wall paint, you will only get a spotty film appearance, which can even be wiped off due to too large pigment quantity.

From our programme you can choose very intensive colour shades for interior surfaces with the following paints: SPEKTRA interior washable wall paint, SPEKTRA latex (matt) and SPEKTRA latex (semi-matt). In the shops, where they have our HELIOMIX mixing unit (mixing system, they can prepare it in the desired quantity and colour shade.

For the detailed information regarding a nice application you can contact us.

In the room near the radiator we have a stain of water, which we covered with SPEKTRA antinicotine paint.

  • In the room near the radiator we have a stain of water, which we covered with SPEKTRA antinicotine paint. The other rest part we painted with SPEKTRA interior wall paint 2000. But the colour shades are different. How is this possible?

  • The both mentioned paints, SPEKTRA antinicotine paint and SPEKTRA 2000 interior wall paint are produced in white colour, but colour shades are different, as the composition of both paints is different, different fillers are used having different whiteness, pigment quantity is different.

Therefore we recommend that for the same room always the same quality of paint is used.

Therefore we recommend, that you use for the same room always the same quality of paint.

At home we have wooden windows, which we painted before approx. 8 years for the last time with some stain coating.

  • At home we have wooden windows, which we painted before approx. 8 years for the last time with some stain coating. Now the windows are fairly destroyed, on the outer side there are small cracks. What coatings we should use to paint them, what kind of lacquers and paints should be used?

  • As it is the question of renovation of windows, which were painted with stain coatings, we suggest the renovation of your windows with BORI stain coatings. Most probably you still want wood texture to be evident !
The renovation of stain coatings is easier than the renovation of top coatings, as the coating should be before the repeated application of paint (stain) only slightly sanded. As you wrote the windows are very dry, therefore you should use for the first coating BORI thin-layered stain in a suitable colour shade, by which you will achieve unifying of colour shade, besides this stain contains the micronized pigment, that penetrates together with a binder into the wood.

Then 2 coats of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION in the selected colour shade will follow.
You can not achieve lighter shades from current ones with stain coatings, usually we recommend at renovation a one colour shade lighter shade. Due to transparency of stain we get with each coat somehow darker colour shade. You can also mix each colour shade with clear stain, which makes the colour shade lighter.

You can check technical information for both mentioned products at our website (Wood / Stains), where also coating systems are described, if you want a very light colour shade of your windows, we recommend the use of top coatings TESSAROL.

Please let me know, what is the best for painting the corridors in a new house?

  • Please let me know, what is the best for painting the corridors in a new house? We would like to have it painted in a brown colour shade. Thank you.

  • As you did not state the intensity of a brown colour shade, we shall recommend two products, one for more intensive and dark colour shades and one for light colour shades.

If the house is new, I suppose that it is heat and hydro insulated and that you do not have problems with heat bridges, therefore I would recommend the use of SPEKTRA latex matt paint for the reason, that brown (all intensive dark colour shades) are sensitive to "drawing" with fingers along the surface, which leave white spots. As the paint has a smooth film, it may be wiped with a damp cloth along the surface. All paints of a low price class are also matt, yet the matt effect is due to a rough film more distinctive and it is more difficult to wipe and maintain them. For the light brown colour shade you could use also SPEKTRA interior washable paint with regard to a lighter colour shade and the matt effect of drawing on surface is not reflected in visible defects.

We have been renovating a 30 years' old flat, which we want to paint in white and later on one of the walls paint in more intensive colour shades.

  • We have been renovating a 30 years' old flat, which we want to paint in white and later on one of the walls paint in more intensive colour shades. The walls are without specific stains (no larger stains and mould). We are expecting a baby, therefore we want a paint without unpleasant odour and health harmful substances. Which paint do you recommend?

  • For painting of interior surfaces we recommend SPEKTRA interior wall paints, which may be delivered in different qualities and colour shades. In view of the fact that there will be small children in a house, we recommend SPEKTRA interior washable wall paint, which enables you also cleaning of spots made by hands. The paint is high vapour permeable, has a good hiding power, nice matt appearance and can be ordered in an optional colour shade. If a white surface and the coat, resistant to dry rubbing is sufficient to you, we recommend SPEKTRA 2000 interior wall paint, which is easy for application and has a good hiding power.

Each paint also has a definite odour of raw materials – acrylic binders, which is characteristic for all water-based paints. The odour in the room is present only for some days, until the coat will dry through. The paint is not harmful for use and is produced according to the latest standards of the European legislation (VOC free).

You can get all technical information about the products at our web sites.

How shall I paint the wooden, dark brown fence with an iron carrier into a white colour (not with oil paint)?

  • How shall I paint the wooden, dark brown fence with an iron carrier into a white colour (not with oil paint)?

  • With stain coatings, which contain transparent pigments, in thin-layered stain they penetrate into a wood structure, of course we shall not reach this goal.
In order to achieve the desired goal, we can avoid the use of standard top coating-paint on the alkyd basis (oil paints), let us say TESSAROL enamel in the way that we use a coating system from the same trade mark TESSAROL, on acrylic basis.

    Work procedure

    • We prepare the surface in such a way, that we sand the existing coating (dark brown paint), clean and remove possible grease spots with NITRO thinner.
    • The application of one coat of TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood is necessary only in case, on individual parts of a wooden fence wood texture is visible (there is no film soluble substance from the preceding paints).Apply the basic paint with a brush or roller. With one litre of TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood you can over 8 – 10 square m of surface in one coat.
In case it is necessary to renovate the coat also on metal fence parts we use TESSAROL acrylic primer for iron. Beforehand it is necessary to clean the surface. The application of basic paint is needed, if there is rust on the pillars, as the basic paint serves as the anticorrosion protection. The application follows with a brush or roller.
After drying (approx. 4 – 6 hours) sand slightly TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood, in this we remove part of wood fibres, which during the drying of the basic paint stand up vertically to the surface.
    • Afterwards paint wooden and metal fence parts with two coats of TESSAROL acrylic enamel. We use a brush, roller or spraying for the application. In our case we shall use the white colour shade. Otherwise we can choose in the mixing system of paints HELIOMIX among more than 3.000 colour shades. With one litre of paint we shall cover approx. 5 – 6 square m of surface in two coats, depending on the thickness of one coat. At the spraying application the losses are approx. 20 – 30 %, therefore the »outcome« will be a bit lower. The coat of TESSAROL acrylic enamel is in one hour dry to touch, the following coat will be applied after 8 hours.

I have to paint sun collectors for preparation of warm water into black.

  • I have to paint sun collectors for preparation of warm water into black. In view of the increased temperature I would like to know, which paint you recommend?

  • For surface protection of sun collectors we have in our production programme the product SOLARECT. The product SOLARECT is, due to specific requirements to which the coatings for surface protection of collectors must comply, adjusted to their industrial production. Therefore the product can not be bought in the shops with paints and lacquers.

We have a new concrete fence, I would like to know what to use for the first painting and impregnation.

  • We have a new concrete fence, I would like to know what to use for the first painting and impregnation.

  • The concrete fence must be good hydroisolated. If there is a direct contact with soil or humidity, you can expect in a certain time, that this humidity will penetrate under the colour film, which will due to temperature differences experience different tensions (frost), crack and fall off as the consequence.

If the isolation has already been provided, you have several variants available and we recommend the following one: SPEKTRA acrylic paint for concrete socles. Prior to first painting we recommend impregnation – the best is - SPEKTRA deep impregnation, may be also SPEKTRA acrylic impregnation, if the concrete is porous. Paint is applied in 2 coats with a roller or brush. You can choose the colour shade at request (HELIOMIX mixing units in shops). Consumption: with 1 litre you can cover from 3 to 4 square m in two coats. Limitation: temperature of a workpiece and environment should not be lower than +5°C.

Are there deviations possible in colour shades and according to which standards?

  • Are there deviations possible in colour shades and according to which standards?

  • We confirm colour shades by means of :

    • spectrophotometer (measurment of difference between the standard and sample) and visually or
    • only visually. Minimal deviations are allowed.

    Standards are different:

    • etalon – coating on sheet metal, paper
    • international standard colour charts (RAL,…)
    • wet standards (stain coatings).

The most frequent reasons for higher deviations in colour shades are:

    • prior to application, paint was badly or not mixed at all
    • in stain coatings the colour shade is influenced by the type of substrate (oak, beach), structure of wood at the same wood type and coating thickness

The colour shade is influenced also by other factors. For example:

    • light (daily, night, illumination in business premises), in which we evaluate the colour shade
    • coating surface: smooth, rough, gloss, semi-matt, matt coating
    • visual system (eye) and others.

I wish to paint the old iron balcony fence

  • I wish to paint the old iron balcony fence. The present colour is black and peels off, besides there is some rust on several parts. How should I prepare fence for painting and which system to use in order to keep it long protected and nice. I would like to know, if some ecologic paints exist.

  • For good and long-term protection the surface preparation is very important. With regard to the fact, that the paint peels off we assume, that the coat is fairly damaged. Therefore remove rust and the badly adhered paint thoroughly with sanding and grease and other impurities with NITRO thinner. If you are going to remove rust with chemicals based on acid (phosphor), you have to rinse the surface thoroughly with water, let dry and only afterwards apply the basic iron paint.

    • Protection of fence with solvent-based paints TESSAROL
Apply one coat of TESSAROL primer for iron to the prepared surface, which will protect iron against rust. You can choose among three colour shades (oxide red, grey, white). Afterwards apply two coats of TESSAROL professional enamel or TESSAROL enamel in a desired colour shade. Individual coats will follow in one day. Paints may be applied with a brush or spraying. If necessary, thin paint with TESSAROL thinner.

    • Protection of fence with water-based eco-friendly paints TESSAROL acryl

Apply two coats of TESSAROL acrylic primer for iron to the prepared surface, which will protect iron against rust. You can get it in oxide red colour shade. Afterwards apply 2 coats of TESSAROL acryl enamel, in a desired colour shade. Individual coats will follow after 6 - 8 hours. Temperature of environment, paint and object should be minimum 12°C, as at the lower temperaure the coating film will not be built. The application is performed with a brush or spraying. If necessary, thin it with water.

With regard to experiencies we can say, that solvent-based coatings offer better protection to iron objects, which are exposed to intensive weather influences.

I would like to know how long it is necessary to wait for colours mixed with the system HELIOMIX?

  • I would like to know how long it is necessary to wait for colours mixed with the system HELIOMIX?

  • The time for manufacture of paint in a desired colour shade , which the seller prepares with HELIOMIX system, is very short, depending on some factors.

From the time the buyer confirms the chosen colour shade, the seller needs no more than 5 minutes in order to prepare the paint. It is the goal of the seller, who has the sale of paints organized based on mixing systems, that he has any time all basic materials needed for the prouction of colour shades on stock.

In the frame of available stocks of basic colours of trade marks BORI, SPEKTRA and TESSAROL, and the needed tinting pastes, the seller will also produce the desired colour shade. The speed and repeatability of the chosen colour shades are one of the advantages in use of colour shades from the mixing system HELIOMIX.

Factors, which influence the speed of delivery – handing over of the paint in a desired colour are:
    1. type of paint (for example SPEKTRA silicate, silicone or acrylic facade paint or BORI thin-layered stain …………)
    2. paint quantity
    3. selected packaging unit for paint
    4. seller's abilities and
    5. stocks with the seller.

Our walls are dirty with soot. Which paint do you recommend for painting?

  • Our walls are dirty with soot. Which paint do you recommend for painting?

  •

    • SELECTION OF PAINT:
    SPEKTRA antinicotine paint
    • SURFACE PREPARATION:
Surface should be dry and firm.Fill out rough surfaces and cracks with SPEKTRA interior putty.
    • PAINTING:
Apply paint to ceiling or wall with a brush, roller or spraying. We recommend to apply 2 coats. Individual coats should follow in at least 4 hours. With one litre you can cover 4 – 5 square m of surface in two coats. Thin paint with SPEKTRA thinner for antinicotine paint if necessary.

Interior wall paints, which are exposed to high wear we wish to protect with a coating, which enables the performance of different colourwash.

  • Interior wall paints, which are exposed to high wear we wish to protect with a coating, which enables the performance of different colourwash. What would you recommend?

  • You can achieve colourwash on interior walls with the application technique and the choice of a suitable wall paint.

    • WORK PROCEDURE:
Paint surface in a desired colour shade (2 coats) with SPEKTRA interior washable wall paint. For the application of the third coat use SPEKTRA Domflok lacquer (gloss or semi-matt), mix 5 - 10% of SPEKTRA interior washable wall paint into it - in a darker or lighter colour shade than the surface.

    • APPLICATION OF A COLOURED LACQUER:
Apply paint with a roller to approx. 1 square m of surface and wipe it with a cloth or sponge in order to get an even coat. Continue with this procedure until you cover the complete surface. You may apply the third coat with the dipping of cloth or sponge into a coloured SPEKTRA Domfok lacquer. Apply evenly the coloured lacquer with a weted cloth on the surface.During work the temperature of the room should be approx. 20°C.
Wall and other paints and lacquers are prepared in the selected colour shade (3000 different colour shades) in a very short time in the shops with paints using a mixing system HELIOMIX.

In the bathroom we have a problem with mould.

  • In the bathroom we have a problem with mould. What do you recommend in such cases?

    • SELECTION OF PAINT:
SPEKTRA wall paint for kitchens and bathrooms

    • SURFACE PREPARATION:
Apply SPEKTRA biocide agent Sanitol to all attacked surfaces and their environment. If they are strongly attacked, use the original solution, otherwise thin in accordance with the instructions given on packaging. SPEKTRA biocide agent Sanitol penetrates into the surface and destroys microorganisms on the surface and in the interior. After it dries, we remove mould with a brush or sanding with a grinding paper. If the walls are strong attacked, repeat the procedure with SPEKTRA biocide agent Sanitol. As SPEKTRA biocide agent Sanitol does not contain whitenning substances, spots remain, afterwards the painting follows. For the better adhesion of wall paint (several coats of old plaster, worse quality of old plaster) apply 1 coat of SPEKTRA acrylic impregnation.

    • PAINTING:
Painting with SPEKTRA wall paint for kitchens and bathrooms, which offers the microbiologic protection of a colour film for at least some years (the duration of protection depends to a large extent on the conditions in the room). We apply 2 coats, in 5 hours of interval at normal conditions (approx. 20°C, rel.hum. 65%). For the paint application we can use a brush, roller or spraying. The paint is ready for application, thinning is not necessary, if you thin it, we recommend to the utmost 5 – 10% of water. With a thinned paint you apply a thinner film to surfaces, there is less protection. With one litre you paint 5– 6 square m of wall surfaces in 2 coats. You can find it in white colour in plastic pails of 5 litres. You can prepare light colour shades yourselves with the use of pigment concentrates, which are suitable for tinting of water wall paints. We recommend utmost 5 % of pigment concentrate. You can also use paints, which are suitable for independent painting and tinting.

Shall we paint new copper wires for the central heating with white TESSAROL acrylic enamel?

  • Shall we paint new copper wires for the central heating with white TESSAROL acrylic enamel? We would like to avoid unpleasant odour (this paint is water-based and has no unpleasant odour), bacause we have a baby in our house.

  • Zinc plated sheet metal, copper and other coloured metals are the materials, which require due to their characteristics the paints produced on special binders Therefore the use of TESSAROL acrylic enamel for painting of copper wires for central heating is not recommended.

For painting of copper wires for central heating we recommend the use of TESSAROL enamel for galvanised sheet metal. TESSAROL enamel for galvanised sheet metal dries quickly. You will paint wires in shorter time than with any other coating.
Besides intensive colour shades we produce also colourless enamel the appearance of copper wires remains unchanged.

I have to paint interior wooden parts of a roof. What would you recommend?

  • I have to paint interior wooden parts of a roof. What would you recommend?

  • You may paint wooden roof parts in two variants, regerading the fact if you wish the wood structure to be visible or not.

    1. VARIANT – painting with top paint TESSAROL acrylic enamel, which covers the wood structure
Remove possible resins and impurities from the surface. Afterwards apply one coat of TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood. After this coat dries, sand surface slightly with a sand paper of granulation 120 - 150. After 4 - 6 hours apply first coat of top paint TESSAROL acrylic enamel. Apply top paint in two coats. The application follows with a brush or roller, in application with spraying, the quantity of a necessary paint increases.

    2. VARIANT – painting with stain coatings BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION, where the wood structure remains visible.
If the wood is new and yet not protected, use BORI thin-layered stain with biocide. Use brush for application. Apply two coats of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION to a dried surface. Apply still the third coat to very exposed spots. Apply coats in intervals between 8 – 16 hours. Use brush for the application of lacquer stain.

How shall I prepare the wooden verge with bargeboard, before we set the roof in order to have little work in future

  • How shall I prepare the wooden verge with bargeboard, before we set the roof in order to have little work in future. A bargeboard should be in white colour.

  • Apply BORI wood preservative to lamellas and wood construction, which protects wood against worms and mould.
Afterwards apply one coat of TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood. Sand dry surface (after approx. 4 – 6 hours) slightly to remove wood fibres, which stood during the time of drying from the wood structure (they cause the surface roughness).
Two coats of TESSAROL acrylic enamel will follow wth a brush or roller. The time interval should be 4 to 6 hours.

In case during the assembly the coating gets damaged, it should be immediately renovated.

We are going to put up a new wooden pergola in a sunny place

  • We are going to put up a new wooden pergola in a sunny place. Which products shall we use and in what order ? What should be an interval between two coats? Which colour shade do you recommend? After how many years should we protect wood again and what should we use?

  • The pergola, which shall be put to a exposed sunny place you can best protect with the use of the following products:

    • BORI thin-layered stain with biocide, which protects wood against fungi and insects,
    • BORI thin-layered stain, which protects wood in depth and colours wood texture, prevents wood swelling,
    • BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION, which forms a thick-layered, water repulsive film and a special UV filter; the coating will not crack and not peel off.

    WORK PROCEDURE:
Use BORI thin-layered stain with biocide for the application of the first layer, afterwards the coat of BORI thin-layered stain and two coats of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION.
The time interval for drying between two coats is 24 hours. The time interval between individual coats is 8 – 16 hours, depending on working conditions.
For the protection of pergola use light colour shades – middle brown, which are of long duration.

The renovation interval for a stain coating depends on the fact if we eliminate possible minor surface defects, occured in a lacquer stain film currently. In case we regularly eliminate damages with the same coating, there could be a longer time until the repeated renovation (also more than 7 years), in the opposite case it is necessary to renovate stain coatings each 3 years. For the renovation of stain coating use a lighter stain, as the number of coats has influence on a colour shade intensity (with a higher number of coats, the colour becomes darker).

Which coatings do you recommend for the protection of visible, outer roof part?

  • Which coatings do you recommend for the protection of visible, outer roof part? The roof is approx. 15 years old, it was protected approx. 10 years ago. In some places there are worms in wood.

  • We suppose that the roof was protected with stain coatings – these are transparent coatings, where the wood structure is visible.

The renovation of stain coatings is easy, sand the surface slightly, clean and apply 2 coats of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION in a selected colour shade. You may prepare the desired colour shade also yourselves with mixing of different colour shades of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION or we make the colour shade lighter with transparent BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION . The most appropriate wood protection is in the middle brown colour shades, light colours let more UV rays through, which decomposite lignine in wood, dark colour shades keep the warmth, that damages wood and ages the coating film – more frequent renovation is needed. For the protection of wood against worms we recommend the use of impregnation stain with the insecticide BORI thin-layer stain with biocide, which we apply as the first coat in renovation.
In order to destroy wood worms completely, a more thorough step is needed, in this case it is best to contact performers, who take measures against the attack of insects.

I am interested in purchase of a new timber house

  • I am interested in purchase of a new timber house. The construction is once or twice painted with your products. I would like to know with what products and in which order I should finalize the timber house, protect it against insects, fire etc.

  • As you did not tell which of our products you used I suppose that a timber house is most probably protected with BORI thin-layered stain with biocide, which protects wood against mould or with IMPREGNAL N, which protects wood against vegetarial organisms and insects. Both coatings are colourless. For further protection and decoration you can choose among transparent coatings BORI (wood structure remains visible) or top coatings TESSAROL.

    1. Protection of timber house outer parts

    • Sand wood slightly with a sand paper of granulation 180 and apply one coat of BORI thin-layered stain. Afterwards apply 2 coats of BORI lacquer stain UV PROTECTION, which contains waxes and UV absorbers, which protects wood against rain and sun. Individual coats will follow in one day. In both coatings you can choose among 8 - 10 colour shades of wood and according to colour chart for stain coatings COLTEC WOOD (75 colour shades), which are prepared according to mixing system HELIOMIX. We do not recommend protection with transparent stain, as it offers sufficient protection against sun (wood becomes grey very quickly).

    • Wood may also be protected with top coatings TESSAROL.
After you sanded wood slightly, apply 1 - 2 coats of TESSAROL primer for wood, afterwards 2 coats of TESSAROL professional enamel or TESSAROL enamel in the selected colour shade will follow. In TESSAROL enamel you can choose among 14 standard colour shades or colour proposals HELIOMIX (3000 colour shades). TESSAROL professional enamel you can get in white or according to colour proposals HELIOMIX (3000 colour shades). Individual coats will follow in one day.

    2. Protection of interior timber house parts

    • Sand wood slightly and apply 2 coats of BORI thin-layered stain or the eco-friendly water-based BORI acrylic thin-layered stain in the selected colour shade. For interior protection you can also use a colourless one. In BORI thin-layered stain the coats will follow in one day, in BORI acrylic thin-layered stain the next coat will follow after 4 – 6 hours.

    • You can decorate also the interior with top coatings TESSAROL. After you sanded wood slightly, apply one coat of TESSAROL primer for wood, or eco-friendlier TESSAROL acrylic primer for wood, afterwards two coats of TESSAROL professional enamel and TESSAROL enamel will follow in one day, in TESSAROL acrylic enamel the next coat will follow already after 6 - 8 hours.

Unfortunately we do not have fire-protection coatings.
